• “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.” – Steve Jobs

Qualifying Exam

Pursuing another degree requires passing through various obstacles and that includes a qualifying exam. The qualifying exam is like a hurdle that will either let you proceed with the course or stop at nine (9) units. It evaluates your readiness to complete the program and you will be asked about the topics/discussions you have gone through during the first semester.

Being in a graduate program provides more pressure because a lot is expected from the candidates. And so, just like others, I tried to prepare for possible questions. It was cancelled during its first schedule and because of the busy days, I have forgotten about the second schedule of the qualifying exam.

The 18th of June, 2021 has come and we were all worried and anxious of what the questions might be. What we know is that questions will come from our three subjects: History of Administrative Thought, Advance Public Finance and Advance Organizational Behavior.

I did not really expect that questions would be given like the ones during extemporaneous speaking and worse, you don't have time to think about what and how to answer. Mostly, because it was done virtually and moving your keyboards and mouse could be seem obvious. You just need to answer it the way you understood the topic. It was very objective and questions really came from the topics we have discussed. To summarize, I think the questions circulated on Human Behavior, Motivation and Communication, Public Goods, CoVID-19 and the relationship of Public Administration and Politics.

Generally, I think that I was able to give answers to the questions but I just can't tell whether it was the answers expected by the panel. But then, I rest my case to the Almighty Father, for He knows what's best for all of us. Nonetheless, it was experience worth writing for.

Throughout the qualifying exam, I realized a few things:

1. No matter how you study if questions can come so randomly, your answers will also be random. You just said something but you cannot tell for sure if it was the correct answer.

2. Before the exam, pray hard so God will give you the wisdom to answer all the questions.

3. After the exam, pray harder so God will give the examiner's wisdom to relate to your answers.

4. After the exam, move on and accept whatever the results maybe.

I Lab Silab

Dubbed as the Little Baguio of Capiz, Silab has gained attention not just in the Province but also among its neighbors. But, what can you really see in this mountainous area of the province? For one, see these pictures we've taken early in the morning and decide whether it is worth to wake up before the sun even rises.

This indigo colored sky was neither edited nor filtered. It was taken at around 5AM and you can splurge on this view only at a few minutes because the sun will soon fade it away.

These two woke up early and brought their coffee to experience the fresh morning breeze of Silab.

Isn't it amazing? You can see this horizon and everything just seems magnificent.

Along the way, you can see wild flowers blooming.

I have relocated in this neighborhood and I feel lucky that it is nearby Silab. When time is available, I can just walk a few minutes and get in touch with nature.

One last thing is that only your eyes can give justice to the beauty of this place.

Seeing the Pandemic in a different way

People need to slow down and take a rest.

Mother Earth needs to rest as well.

The Pandemic has caused everyone to rest!

The Pandemic has made everyone creative and innovative!

It's over a year since the Pandemic has hit the world and everyone has their own story to tell. Some are coping with it, some are not. Some are struggling while others find an opportunity. Life has changed because of the Pandemic and that the new normal is setting up. In the academe, such change follows the white-water rapids metaphor. Everyone is in confusion as to how we can overcome this crisis. The change was so fast and we don't know when we can adapt.

Now, online learning is no longer an alternative but a must. Even our seasoned professors will have to adjust to the new normal. We all both need to adjust in whatever circumstance we are into. As what Charles Darwin said "only the fittest survives".

We cannot let this COVID-19 hinder us from our academic journey. Good thing, Google Meet, Zoom, Facebook Live, Youtube and many other platforms have become available to cater the needs of our students. For a short period of time, we can let them know that we understand their situation and that they should understand ours too.

However, we all have different stance over the matter. When this happen, exercise maximum tolerance and show that you care. For the world is already in deep **** that we only have each other to lessen the burden. Take this challenging times as an opportunity to showcase our resistance and adaptability, flexibility and survivability.
